How I work

My work is based on three simple ideas.

First, most people have never been taught to work with others to make decisions and accelerate results.

Second, even when people do know what to do, they often don't put that knowledge into practice.

Third, people who collaborate well - to make decisions and accelerate results- have a specific attitude and set of behaviours, which can be learnt.

These three ideas impact the effectiveness of individuals and groups. I use them as the basis for all my interventions - encouraging people to think, and act, differently.

Work Themes

I design, build and deliver custom interventions with the following themes:

Influence - Deciding With Others: Used in situations where, as a part of their role, executives and professionals need to reach decisions with others. They want to influence thinking, decision-making and action in positive ways.

Interaction - Working With Others: Where people must work together to achieve common goals. They want to sharpen their 'people skills' and other aspects of creative collaboration.

Accountability - Planning With Others: For situations where people must plan actions together in order to get things done. They want to focus on key issues, generate solutions and build action plans that result in greater commitment.

Dialogue - Thinking With Others: When people must explore their ideas and thinking in depth. They want greater clarity about the situation before making their next moves.

Resolution - Reconciling With Others: Used in situations where key people are stuck because of conflicting opinions. They need to reach a mutually acceptable, self-determined, lasting agreement on a way forward.

Operating principles

When working with others my five aims are to always:

  1. Encourage full participation.
  2. Promote mutual understanding.
  3. Focus on outcomes and solutions.
  4. Build sustainable agreements.
  5. Deliver relevant, rapid and practical interventions.
