1/ NOTICE

A post by Damian Hughes highlights how easy it is to jump into conversations without considering the role your partner wants.

Here’s the part that made me think differently:

Before every conversation, ask yourself:Is this a hear, hug, or help conversation?Do they need to be heard?Do they need comfort?Or do they want practical help? It’s a tiny habit. But research shows it dramatically increases connection, engagement and cooperation.

2/ TRY

I had one of those 5am wake-up moments with something on my mind. Sometime last year I stopped asking my clients to complete a Weekly Tracker. I'm not sure exactly how that happened.

So I sat down and wrote a brand new version with proper metrics, making it much less subjective.

Here are links to instructions and a blank template on Google Docs. You can make a copy or download a .docx version:

This format can be adapted for non-sales situations if that's not your arena. Feel free to use it with your team. It's built on a template from Nate Nasralla, who wrote Selling With.

P.S. I've been completing a personal Weekly Tracker for many years now. You should try it.

3/ QUESTION

What are you waiting for permission to do?

No one's coming to approve it.

Do it or don't.

A few examples to stimulate your thinking:

"There's a conversation I need to have, but I'm waiting for the right moment."

"I know we should kill that project, but I haven't brought it to the leadership team."

"I want to challenge how we do client onboarding, but it feels like someone else's job."

Ask yourself: What decision am I avoiding?

That's it.

Until next week.
