Nothing real happens until somebody sells something. That's the grizzly truth.

My grandson and I had discussed the entrepreneurial nature of selling over dinner. I'd told him the Tom Sawyer whitewashing the fence story. I'd explained the three big realisations I had moving from my technical role into sales:

Nothing real happens until something gets sold.

Entrepreneurial-minded salespeople create the best deals, not order-takers.

A lot of people's mortgages relied on my success - and they didn't appreciate that!

Later that evening I was surprised when I read a LinkedIn post with similar observations. These three pieces of data from the post (from the US) jumped out and caught my eye:

1. Sellers in Manufacturing & Services are responsible for a combined $12.7T in revenue.

2. Sellers in this group are responsible for 16% more in revenue in 2023 than the previous year, while the number of them have stayed the same from 2022.

3. A single seller in this group supports 22.26 other US jobs.

Take a moment and reflect on those figures - they are frickin' amazing!

Sellers handle all sorts of pressures, risks and pains. They carry the stretch targets, frustrations, quarter-end pressure, unexpected losses, relief when big deals close your way, and disappointment ... so others don't have to.

Let's all celebrate, acknowledge and appreciate the value these deal-makers add to the economy.

Think Different

I love it when there's a seemingly Unreasonable Agenda. The Apple Think Different campaign epitomised this. Just look at the change makers: Albert Einstein: Questioned absolute space-time. Bob Dylan: Reimagined song meanings poetically. Martin Luther King Jr.: Envisioned equality beyond segregation. Richard Branson: Ignored business conventions fearlessly. John

Molly vs the Machines

Monetising misery. A machine for manipulating behaviour. Global architecture of surveillance. Computational governance. -//- Yesterday I watched Molly vs the Machines on Channel 4 catch up. I feel it's a must watch for anyone with children. The phrases above are four of many I wrote down, used
